Eidendrumに類似した葦のような茎を持つ着生植物である。Epidendrumとの相違は、Oerstedellaには葉鞘に顕著な瘤がたくさんあること、Epidendrumは唇弁が蕊柱の先端部で癒合しているのに対してOerstedellaは先端部で癒合することはないことなどである。メキシコからボリビアに分布する。種分化の中心はコスタリカやパナマの西部である。
Oerstedella is an epiphyte which has reed-like stems resembling Eidendrum, but it has leaf sheaths with prominent warts and the lip not hinged at the top of column. It is found from Mexico to Bolivia. But the center of distribution is in Costa Rica and the west Panama.
Oerstedella es una epifitas que tiene la forma de caña como Eidendrum, pero tiene la vaina de hoja con verrugas prominentes y el labelo que no se pega con la columna en la punta. Se encuentra desde México hasta Bolivia. El centro de distribución es en Costa Rica y al oeste de Panamá.
