Peristeria属は１１種が中米南部からブラジルまでに分布する。地生または着生の大型のラン。偽球茎は平滑な卵形で、大きな縦皺のある葉を2～4枚つける。花茎は偽球茎の基部から生じ、直立または下垂する。芳香のあるカップ状の花をつける。標高600～1200ｍの湿潤な森の中に生育する。
Genus Peristeria
Eleven species of Genus Peristeria are distributed from Central America to Brazil. They are terrestrial or epiphytic large orchids. The pseudobulb is smooth and ovoid with 2 to 4 heavily veined leaves. The erect or pendent inflorescence is produced from the base of the pseudobulb. The inflorescence makes very fragrant cup-shaped flowers. They grow in moist tropical forests of 600～1200ｍ in height.

Son once especies en el Género Peristeria se distribuyen desde la America Central hasta Brazil. Son orquídeas grandes, terrestres o epifitas. El pseudobulbo es liso y ovalado con un número de 2 a 4 hojas sumamente plegadas. La inflorescencia elevada o suspendida crece desde la base del pseudobulbo. Tiene flores en forma de copa con mucha fragancia. Crece en los bosques tropicales y humedos a una altitud de 600～1200ｍ.
Peristeria elata
パナマ、コスタリカ、コロンビア、ベネズエラに分布する大型の地生ラン。花茎は直立する。花には高貴な芳香がある。エスピリトサント（聖霊）、ハトランなどと呼ばれる。パナマの国花。栽培法を知らない趣味家に乱獲されて絶滅が危惧されている。開けた岩の多いところや草の生えた急峻な傾斜地に生育する。乱獲しなければもっと一般に見られるようになるだろう。
It is a large terrestrial orchid distributed in Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia and Venezuela. The plants produce an erect inflorescence to two meters tall with many flowers fragrant noble. It is the national flower of Panama Republic, called Espicitu Santo, Holy Ghost Orchid or dove orchid. It is strongly concerned about its extinction by too much collection by gardeners who do not know the method of cultivation. Its habitats are open, rocky areas and steep, grassy slopes. If people do not disturb the habitat any more, they would be more common.
Es una orquídea terrestre que se distribuye en Panamá, Costa Rica, Colombia y Venezuela. La planta produce una inflorescencia elevada hasta de dos metros de alto con muchas flores con de una fragancia delicada. Es la flor nacional de la Republica de Panamá, se llama Espiitú Santo, Holy Ghost Orchid o la de la paloma. Los habitats son las áreas abiertas, rocosas y los terrenos empinados, cubierto de hierbas. Si la gente no las sacara, podrian crecer más facilmente y evitamos el riesgo de la extinción de dicha especie.

着生ラン。花茎は下垂する。パナマの山岳地帯に分布。エル バジェ デ アントンの上部雲霧林によく見られる。花は強い柑橘のような香がある。南米のP. pendulaとは別種とされている。
花の色はかなり変化に富んでいるが、Peristeria elataなどとの自然交配ではないかと思われるものもある。
It is epiphytic. The inflorescence is pendent. It is distributed in the mountains of Panama. It is commonly found at moist upper forests of El Valle de Anton. The flowers have strong citric scent. It is said the specie is distinguished from Peristeria pendula of the South America.
There are some variations of color in the flowers. The plant wondered about a natural hybrid between Peristeria elata was found.
Es epifita. La inflorescencia es suspendida. Se encuentra en las montañas de Panamá. Es común en los bosques montañosos y humedos del Valle de Antón. Las flores tienen olor fuerte como citricos. Dicen que es diferente a la Peristeria pendula de la America del Sur.
Hay variedad de colores en la flores. Encontré una planta que fué probablemente un híbrido natural con Peristeria elata.
