Oncidium属
この属は６００種以上を含む大きな属で、殆どの熱帯アメリカに分布する。多くは着生ランだが、地生ランも含まれる。この属の特徴は蕊柱に翼状の突起があること、唇弁の基部に複雑な形をした突起物があること。1～2葉を頂生する偽球茎があること。偽球茎は葉状の葉鞘に包まれことなどである。この属の性質は非常に多様で、今後分類体系が変化すると思われる。本属を暫定的に次のように分けることができる。
Genus Oncidium
This genus is a large one including more than 600 species and distributes in almost all tropical America. The most are epiphytic but also some are terrestrial. The characteristic points of this genus are presence of column wings, presence of a complicated callus on the lip, pseudobulbs with one to three leaves and several basal bracts at the base of the pseudobulbs. The species in this genus show large variations of characters and the classification system may change more. The genus is divided into the following three groups.
Genero Oncidium
Este genero es un genero muy grande que incluye más de 600 especies y que exsite en casi todos los paises tropicales de America. La mayoria son epifitas pero hay algunas terrestres. Las características de este genero son la existencia de las alas en la columna conun callo complicado en el labio , los pseudobulbos con una hoja hasta tres hojas y las brácteas básicas en la base de los pseudobulbos.
１．葉が肉質で分厚く、偽球茎が非常に小さく殆ど目立たない仲間。
1）葉が扁平な仲間（Mule ears）
パナマにはOncidium carthagenenseなど少数が分布する。
2）葉が円筒形の仲間（Rat tails）
現在ではいずれもTrichocentrum属に分類される。

There are few species like Oncidium carthagenense in Panama.
2）Leaves subcylindric. (Rat tails)

１．Las hojas estan gruesas y carnosas. Los pseudobulbos son pequeños y no llamativos.
1）Las hojas son carnosas y planas. (Se llaman orejas de asno)
Hay pocas especies cómo Oncidium carthagenense en Panamá.
2）Las hojas son subcilindricas. (Se llaman colas de ratón)
